If the belt is relatively short and not supported by a sliding surface, it is possible to use instruments similar to those used for a driving belt. However, if the belt is supported by a sliding surface, there is no specific device for measuring the mounting tension.
In the absence of calculations or recommendations provided by the manufacturer, two basic principles can be applied:
- The default tension must not exceed 30% of the maximum permissible load.
- As a general rule, the maximum tension induces an elongation of 1 per thousand, i.e. 1 mm for a belt 1 metre long.
